From time to time, we have days when everything seems to go wrong and we definitely don’t feel as happy as we want to be. However, that is no reason to keep feeling down!
We always have the choice and the power to change our attitude and our state of mind, no matter what’s happening: to change our mood, we only have to motivate ourselves a little.
So if you’re ready to start feeling better, learn how to have a good day no matter what happens with these 7 tricks to motivate yourself instantly:
1. Go outside, even if you don’t feel like it
The world has endless possibilities to offer you… but you can’t take advantage of any of them if you’re at home feeling upset, or stuck in your office feeling miserable!
Next time you’re feeling down, put on a coat and a smile, and go outside! Look around and allow yourself the opportunity to enjoy everything that life has to offer.
If you work from home, work from your nearest coffee shop, just for today. If you’re at the office, use your lunch hour to go someplace where you can have a healthy, delicious lunch. You’ll be surprised at how much better you feel when you go outside and notice how big the world is, and how full it is of enjoyable, inspiring things just waiting for someone to notice them.
2. Re-connect with your friends and family
When we’re feeling low, we tend to forget all the wonderful things we have in our life. For example, we forget that we have people we can always count on to love and support us, no matter what. And that is just what we need when we’re feeling down, isn’t it?
Don’t cut yourself off! Look to your friends and family when you’re feeling low. If you live nearby, pay them a visit, have a meal, or meet for a cup of coffee and a conversation. If you’re far away, call them, text them, or Skype for a while!
Re-connect with the people you love and who love you, and you’ll never feel lonely again.
3. Listen to music that always cheers you up
Music heals. It brightens our life and fills us with good energy. Why not use all that positive power when we’re down?
We all have different types of music that cheers us up. It doesn’t matter what type you choose to listen to: the only thing that matters is that it makes you happy, gives you hope, lightens you up, and makes you feel good. Play it in your car, on your phone, at your office (it’s better with headphones, anyway!)… listen to it while you work, while you’re commuting, while you’re working out.
Good music cheers you up, brightens your mood, and lifts your spirit in the blink of an eye.
4. Take a walk
Whenever we start to feel down, it’s very common to slow down: we stay home, move less, sleep more, experience less. But not moving enough is one of the main causes of having low energy and feeling low! It’s the first vicious cycle that you have to break if you want to feel better and have a wonderful day.
No matter how lazy, bored, or tired you might feel, put on your walking shoes on and go out for a stroll. You can walk briskly while you listen to upbeat music (and get a little exercise in), or walk slowly while you enjoy the silence, meditate, and contemplate your surroundings.
Walking clears your mind and gets your blood flowing, therefore helping you think more clearly, be more creative, feel more serene, and put things into perspective.
You don’t have to take a long walk: take a short stroll with your partner, with your child, or with your pet; take a short walk during your lunch break; walk to a nearby meeting instead of driving there.
All in all, walking is great exercise, and knowing that you went out and exercise even if you were feeling low will boost your morale even higher!
5. As you walk, say “Thank you”
You have so many things to be thankful for in your life! Much more than many others. So start being a little more grateful about them!
While you’re walking, remind yourself of all the things you have to be grateful for: your family, your health, your friends, your financial stability, your comfortable home, your promising future, the opportunity you had to get an education, all the fantastic things you’ve achieved, the life-changing lessons you’ve learned.
Thinking about all these positive things you have in your life will make you feel truly blessed, and remembering how blessed you are will make your spirit soar.
Few things set your soul alight as much as gratitude.
6. Be very kind to people and send them good wishes
Whether you’re at the office, commuting, shopping, eating dinner, or walking your dog, notice all the people surrounding you. In the words of the Dalai Lama, every person you meet in your life is an opportunity to be kind. Why not make the best of it?
Every time you interact with people, be as kind to them as you would love people to be to you. Treat them kindly, and respectfully. Greet them warmly, thank them politely, smile sincerely and be patient with them. When you do, people will be equally kind to you, and kindness will brighten even the darkest day.
If you want to go a step further, every time you see someone who is not in the best situation or in good conditions, send them good wishes: look them in the eye, smile gently and think to yourself “I hope you find what you’re looking for, I hope you get what you need, I hope your wishes come true, I hope you find happiness and love.” Try it: this might be the one of the greatest and quickest ways to fill your day with good energy, kindness, and wonderful karma.
7. At the end of the day, give yourself a treat for all the great work you did
Every time you make an effort to help yourself feel better, you are choosing wellness over adversity. Why not celebrate this wise choice?
At the end of the day, give yourself a small treat as reward for putting your wellness first, and for all of your efforts to feel as well as you want and deserve. It doesn’t have to be a big, elaborate gift: you could go to a movie, take a relaxing bath, get a massage, drink a small glass of wine. Anything goes: the only thing that matters is that you love it, and that you will enjoy it immensely.
There you have it! It wasn’t so hard, huh? And the best part is that it really works!
Never conform to feeling bad: whenever you’re having a bad day, motivate yourself! It will change your attitude, lift your spirits, and fill you with good energy almost immediately. At every moment, you deserve to feel wonderfully well, and any moment could be an unforgettable moment, if you only let it!
Best wishes to you, and have a Wise and Happy day! :)
